Come hear the next generation of organists as Christ Cathedral’s own Organ Scholars take the stage and perform on the famed Hazel Wright Organ. These young organists, all students of Cathedral Organist and Head of Music Ministry David Ball, are nationally recognized for their musical achievement. Enjoy their incredible music making and celebrate that the Hazel Wright Organ is already inspiring the future of organ and sacred music!

Christ Cathedral Organ Scholar, Ethan Chow, is currently studying organ with Head of Music Ministry David Ball. Ethan's contributions to the Cathedral Music Ministry are both musical and administrative. A senior at Valencia High School, Ethan is also serving as a Music Intern at the Cathedral through the ValTech program - a select, professional training opportunity offering Valencia High Schoolers a chance to experience using technology in their respective fields.

Ethan's involvement in the Christ Cathedral Music Ministry began when he attended the very first Diocesan Children's Choir Camp and became a member of the Children's Choir. After studying piano for many years, Ethan began taking organ lessons with David Ball and became a Cathedral Organ Scholar in 2017. As a Cathedral Organ Scholar, he sings in the Cathedral and Diocesan Choirs, the Cathedral Schola; and plays regularly for the Cathedral's regular schedule of liturgies and events.

Ethan has been featured in many concerts and competitions including, David Ball and Friends (2019), the 2019 Regional AGO Convention, Hartford POE student recital (2022), and placed second in the RCYO Salt Lake City Chapter Competition (2021).

Ethan plans to major in Organ Performance in college in hopes of pursuing a career in Sacred Music.

A native of Irvine, California, André Lombardi is an Organ Scholar at Christ (formerly Crystal) Cathedral studying with Mr. David Ball. His musical journey began as a chorister in the Diocesan Children’s Choir, singing for masses and special events at Christ Cathedral and on tour at the San Francisco Cathedral, Oakland Cathedral, and St. Peter’s Basilica for a Papal Epiphany Mass. Currently, Andre sings in the English Adult Choir and Schola. As a Member-at-Large of the Orange County American Guild of Organists and an administrator for the 2022 Diocesan Children’s Choir Camp, Andre aspires to encourage his peers and future generations to probe their own artistic possibilities.

André is also an accomplished pianist who has earned Certificate of Merit Level 10 Distinction with State Honors. He founded the non-profit Kreative Kiddos, aimed at bringing interactive STEAM enrichment workshops to homeless youth. Kreative Kiddos also launched Project Create, a vlog-style video series that offers exposure to unique instruments, namely with the first episode featuring the organ. Andre has worked as a CDC Public Health Intern, has leadership roles in medical clubs at school, and directs a bi-monthly podcast for high school students interested in STEM. In his free time, he enjoys scanning Yelp for quality food excursions, tuning into the latest K-pop and Korean dramas, and spending outdoor time with family.

An Orange County native, Alyce Reynaud currently serves as Choral Scholar of Christ Cathedral. Alyce’s contributions to the music ministry are both musical and administrative. She regularly sings for Cathedral liturgies as a Cantor and member of the Cathedral Schola, Cathedral, and Diocesan Choirs. Alyce was recently appointed a Cathedral Organ Scholar after beginning lessons with Head of Music Ministry David Ball. As Music Administrative Intern, Alyce serves as a regular member of the Music Staff, supporting the day-to-day administrative needs of the Cathedral’s vast, multicultural music program.

Alyce began her journey at Christ Cathedral in 2016 attending the inaugural Diocesan Children’s Choir Camp and becoming a founding chorister of the Diocesan Children’s Choir. Eventually, as her interest in choral music grew, she auditioned and was accepted to the Cathedral Adult English Choir although still only a high school student. During the pandemic, she was privileged to be invited to sing in a six-person professional Schola to provide music for the Holy Week and Easter liturgies of 2020 at the Cathedral, and was chosen to sing the high solo part in Allegri’s famous Miserere, Mei. The exhilarating experience of singing the soaring high C’s in the Cathedral’s majestic acoustics inspired Alyce’s decision to pursue a career as a professional musician.

Alyce continues to seek ways to grow as a versatile musician and perform for new audiences. In addition to her singing, her playing of Messiaen on the Hazel Wright Organ has been featured in recitals for the American Guild of Organists, and as Organ Scholar she plays for the regular schedule of preludes, postludes, and liturgies at the Cathedral. Alyce is an active member of the American Guild of Organists and National Pastoral Musicians.

Hubert Tran is a 17 year-old Vietnamese-American organist, pianist, and choral singer. He began his musical training at the age of 5 in piano, culminating in the completion of the Certificate of Merit Program with Branch and State Honors from the Music Teachers’ Association of California. As a singer, Hubert currently performs with the Cathedral Choir and Schola at Christ Cathedral and the Chamber Singers of Mater Dei High School.

At Mater Dei, he was appointed Student Accompanist of the choral program and Bass Section Leader of the Chamber Singers. He has had the opportunity to perform with his choirs at venues including Carnegie Hall, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and St. Peter’s Basilica. As an organist, Hubert has served as Cathedral Organ Scholar at Christ Cathedral since 2018, studying under David Ball. Hubert has been invited to perform in several concerts hosted by the Orange County Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and has accompanied the Mater Dei and Christ Cathedral choirs on tour in New York City and San Francisco, respectively. He has also placed in several competitions including the Concordia University Organ Competition and the Greater Columbia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists’ Young Organist Competition.

Outside of performing, he is also passionate about using the intersection between music and health to improve lives and conducts research at USC’s Keck School of Medicine and serves as a volunteer musician for the Johns Hopkins Center for Music and Medicine.
